Families Belong Together, Stop Jerry's Deportation!

PLEASE KEEP MY FAMILY TOGETHER, HELP STOP JERRY’S DEPORTATION

Jerry Ssebugwawo (A# 073-676-752) is a 50 year-old immigrant from Uganda, who has lived in the U.S. for over 22 years. He is a dedicated husband to Lydia (Matahari Women Workers' Center member), and father of three children -- 8 year-old Israel, 6 year-old Zion, and 4 year-old Judah. He works as a beloved nurse and is a devoted parishioner of Jubilee Christian Church in Mattapan.
Jerry was detained on January 5th, 2012 and held in detention for three months before being released due to Matahari's tremendous amount of community advocacy. He was set free and reunited with his family. Jerry is a survivor of detention: during his detention, he witnessed and experienced the inhumane treatment, including physical and mental brutality. He was transferred to detention center, shackled by his hands and feet, and allowed only one bottle of water during a 14 hour bus ride to a southern detention center.
Since being released, members of his family have become relentless advocates for immigrant rights and keeping their family together.
He has a hearing to determine his fate on April 27, 2017 -- please sign in support to stop the deportation of Jerry so that he can stay with his family.
Some words from Jerry:
“Having been here for 22 years, I have spent most of my life here. My family is here. This is where I feel like I belong. Knowing that any minute they can pick me up and take me away from my family and my life here, I feel hopeless and powerless. I think all the time: What can I do? But if I’m sent home, everything will be gone. Everything I’ve worked for here, I would lose. My whole life: gone. If we are forced to go back to Uganda, we can’t take care of the kids. We can’t send money to them. There is nothing that we could do to take care of our kids. Who will take care of them?”
As a community, we must advocate for Jerry and stand up to this unjust immigration system. Please sign this petition and share widely. Jerry and his family need your support!

My familia esta aquí. No volveré a ver a mi familia. Si somos forzados a regresar a Uganda, no podremos mantener a nuestros hijos, no podre enviarles dinero.
